This coffee is from a cooperative of women, or kopepi, called Kopepi Ketiara. There are around 2000 small shareholders. They have been producing fine coffee for over 25 years, with the primary goal of supporting women and younger growers. This coffee is shade-grown, wet-hulled like most Sumatran coffees, sorted through a mechanical density machine, then triple hand-picked for defects, then density sorted again. This intensively manual process shows the attention to detail used throughout production, and it leads to an excellent cup: deep chocolate syrup notes lead to cedar and fresh-cut tobacco, fresh blackberry, clove and allspice.
