We've carried coffees from the Rancho Grande farm many times before, but this is the first time we've tried a special prep from them. Rancho Grande has been operated by the Reis family since 1933, and they produce dairy, meat, as well as coffee, while experimenting with new processing methods, maintaining sustainability, and caring for their live-in workers.
After harvesting, these cherries are enveloped in plastic sheets, then fermented in the sun for a rather long 60 hours, then sun-dried on raised beds before being processed. In the cup, bittersweet dark chocolate notes, apple cider, stewed raisins, candied almonds, and juicy cantaloupe make for a versatile cup as drip and espresso!
